Frequently Asked Questions

Vitamix was created based on the “Whole Foods Concept”, i.e. the healthiest way to consume our food is to eat the whole food with nothing thrown away.  With the unique design of the motor and laser-cut stainless steel blade, It can grind food microscopically fine in an instant.  That means it can rupture many times more food cells and liberate many more disease-fighting phytochemicals, antioxidants, fibers, vitamins and minerals than any blenders and juice extractors in the market.

Also, you can juice, grind, chop, knead, cook and freeze in seconds and no attachment sticks in the container, it is easy to clean and maintenance.

The Vitamix motor is designed with “Automatic Overload Protection” to protect itself from overheating.

If the motor overheats, turn the power off for up to 45 minutes, allowing the machine to cool down or reset.  Reset time will be extended if high room temperature exists.  To reduce the reset time, remove the container, unplug the machine, and use a hair dryer on the cool setting to blow air into the center section of the bottom of the motor base.

If you are still unable to start your machine, please contact us immediately.

Although all motors are tested at the Vitamix factory, heavy use will cause further curing of the motor windings in new machines.  This curing gives off a burning smell and is typical for wound motors.  This smell will quickly dissipate after a few heavy uses.

In addition, the Vitamix motor is designed with “Automatic Overload Protection” to protect itself from overheating.  If the motor should overheat, it may emit a burning smell.

If this occurs, turn the power off for up to 45 minutes, allowing the machine to cool down or reset.  Reset time will be extended if high room temperature exists.  To reduce the reset time, remove the container, unplug the machine, and use a hair dryer on the cool setting to blow air into the center section of the bottom of the motor base.

Check Your Speed

The Vitamix machine performs best on high speed to pulverize food and process thick mixtures.

Check Your Quantity

Processing cooked potatoes, cooked rice or cooked beans creates a heavier than normal load on the machine.  You may want to consider reducing the food quantity placed in the container by half (depending on how much food you started with) and possibly adding a bit of liquid.

Follow Order of Ingredients

When following Vitamix recipes, be sure to place ingredients into the container in the order listed.  If using your own recipe, follow this order for full-size containers: liquid ingredients first (water, juice, yogurt), followed by softer ingredients (tofu), then juicier fruits and vegetables (grapes, cucumbers), firmer fruits and vegetables (apples, carrots), frozen ingredients (frozen berries), and finally ice.  Dry ingredients like protein powders should follow the ice.

Use the Tamper

If ingredients are not freely circulating, the tamper can be used to improve the flow of food.  While the machine is running and with the lid firmly in place, insert the tamper through the lid plug opening and hold it in one of the corners of the container.  As the food travels around the side of the container, the tamper directs it right into the blades.  If there is an air pocket around the blade, the tamper will release the air pocket and create a continuous flow of food through the blades.

Ingredients have been grinded in high speed, causing friction heat and thus making the ingredients hot.

The shape and function of wet and dry blade is different.  The wet blade has four pointed tips and is designed to pull foods down, whereas the dry blade has two pointed and two squared off tips and is designed to push foods up.  Most of the recipes can be done by wet container, like smoothies, hot soup, chop ingredients, etc.  The dry container is good to make dry ingredients in powder form, like coffee bean, wheat, etc, as well as knead bread dough.

We will schedule live demonstration periodically at supermarkets in rotation.  Please contact us for details.

No disassembly is required when cleaning Vitamix machine.

For most of the existing and Explorian Series models:

  • Put warm water and few drops of detergent in the container;
  • Put the lid on and run the machine for 30 seconds, stop the machine;
  • Get off the container and rinse under tap water;
  • DON’T PUT THE MOTOR BASE INTO WATER for cleaning. Wiped the surface of the motor base with clean wet cloth and let dry.

For Ascent Series models, it has self-clean program.

  • Put warm water and few drops of detergent
  • Put the lid on and press the cleaning programe button. The machine will run for 60 seconds;
  • Get off the container and rinse under tap water;
  • DON’T PUT THE MOTOR BASE INTO WATER for cleaning. Wiped the surface of the motor base with clean wet cloth and let dry.

We provide 7-years warranty for Exporian Series models, and 10-years for Ascent Series models.  Please refer to the warrant card coming with the box pack, or visit Customer Center section for warranty details.
